Shivaganga is a hill temple and picnic spot about 60 kms from Bangalore. One has to go on Tumkur highway and take a left turn near Dobaspet in order to reach Shivaganga. Climbing the hill may require moe than 2 hours. There is a shiva statue and Gopuram (temple entrance) from where the trekking starts. At the bottom there are steps upto Gangadhareswar temple. Gangadhareswar temple is quite big. But the main temple is under a huge stone. It is like a cave temple. After Gangadhareswar temple the main trekking starts. While climbing up one can see the beautiful views around. The huge Nandi (bull) statue on the way is a eye catching landmark. After reaching the top of the hill you will find another temple and a natural water reservoir.
After visiting Gangadhareswar temple we climbed further to the Shivaganga hills. On the top of the hill there is another temple of Lord Shiva. There is a cave behind the main shrine. One has to bend down or crawl and go very carefully through this slippery cave. There is natural holy water in the cave to sprinkle. After visiting the temple we climbed further up to see Olakala teertha which is natural water reservoir. It is definitely a wonder to see water at such a great height. Shivaganga is a popular picnic spot and an attractive day trip from Bangalore. We have visited Shivaganga several times.
