Yagachi Dam near Belur in Rainy Season

Yagachi dam is about 8 kms from Belur on Belur-Chikmangalur
main road. The dam is built on river Yagachi, a tributary of river Cauvery. The
dam is built recently in 2004. It supplies water for irrigation in Hassan and
Chikmangalur district. The water flowing on the river gives a magnificient
view. There is also a beautiful garden by the side of the dam. We took a drive
from Belur to visit the dam. As this is on the opposite route of Halebid, we
had to return back from the dam and take the other route for Halebid. If you
have extra time after visiting Belur and Halebid, it is a good idea to spend an
hour to visit this dam.

Sculptures of Halebid Hoyasaleswar Temple

Halebid is famous for the beautiful Hoyasaleswar temple.
Hoyasaleswar temple was built in 11th century. It is the largest
existing structure in Hoyasaleswar style. Hoyasaleswar is another name of Lord
Shiva. The Hoyasaleswar temple is guarded by two Nandi statues in the front.
These Nandi statues are more than 8 feet tall in height.

The carving on the temple wall shows many animals, birds,
dieties, sages etc. depicting the lifestyle during Hoyasala age. There are many
sculptures which depicts stories from Ramayana and Bhagavad Geeta. All the
walls of the temple are filled with stone sculptures without leaving any blank
space. There is an archaeological museum in the temple campus consisting of
large number of stone crafts. Although many of the images are broken, they
still describe the architectural height of the Hoyasala period.

Halebid is about 17 kms from Belur, 27 kms from Hassan and
215 kms from Bangalore. We first visited Belur and went to Halebid on the next
day. Apart from Hoyasaleswar temple there are other interesting places like
Kedareswar temple, Shantinath Basadi and Pushpagiri etc. which are shown in
separate videos.

A family visit to Chenna Keshava Temple in Belur

Belur is about  40 kms
from Hassan and is about 220 kms from Bangalore. Belur is famous for Chenna
Keshav Temple. Channa Keshav is another name of Lord Krishna or Vishnu. The
temple was built by the kings of Hoyasala dynasty in 11th Century.
The temple took about 100 years to complete. The walls of the temple are all
filled with beautiful carvings. The fringes on the walls depict stories from
Ramayana. The temple displays stunning works and architecture of Hoysala
dynasty. The main door of the temple is guarded by a statue of a “youth killing
a lion” which is the symbol of Hoysala dynasty.

The image of lord Channa Keshava is made of black granite.
The god is worshipped regularly in the traditional manner. There were quite a
lot of people in the temple. The inner door of the temple was closed for some
time and then reopened with traditional music played live by people there in
the temple. It was a great spiritual satisfaction to hear the live music and
have darshan of the lord Channa Keshav. My mom was very satisfied to see the
idol of Lord Chenna Keshav. The temple is so beautiful that anybody would love
to visit the temple again and again.

Jain Temples in Sravana Belagola Chikkabetta (Chandragiri) Part-2

Sravana belagola is a prominent Jain piligrim center about
150 kms from Bangalore. It is famous for the 58 feet tall monolythic statue of
Bhagavan Bahubali Gomateswar. There are two hills in Sravana belagola, one is
big (Doddabetta) called Bindhyagiri and another is small (Chikka betta) called
Chandragiri. The huge statue of Bahubali is there on Bindhyagiri hills. After
visiting the Bahubali statue in Bindhyagiri we went to see other Jain temples
on Chandragiri.

Most people just visit Bahubali statue on Bindhyagiri and come
back. It is not possible to climb both the hills on the same day. Although I
had visited Bahubali four times, it was my first visit to chandragiri.
Chandragiri is a hidden treasure. It is full of beautiful Jain temples.
Visiting Sravana Belagola will not be complete without visiting
Chandragiri.

Chandragiri is a smaller hill than Bindhyagiri and hence is
called Chikka (small) betta (hill) in Kannada language. The whole hill is like
a single stone and the steps are cut in the rock of the hill. While climbing
Chandragiri hill we could see the temple tank “Kalyani” and statue of Bhagavan
Bahubali on “Bindhyagiri” hills.

The temples on Chandragiri are about 1000 years old. We
first visited “Kund Kund Charan” or the foot prints of Saint Kund Kund. We visited
the temples of Adinath, Santinath, Neminath, Parswanath, Suparswanath,
Chandranatha, Chandraprabha, Chavundaraya and many more. We also saw the statue
of Bharata who was the brother of Bahubali. The style of the statue of Bharata
is similar to that of Bahubali. We also visited the Bhadrabahu cave,
Chandragupta Paduke and many more interesting points.  The whole hill is like a film city. You can
get beautiful pictures everywhere. It is a spiritual dreamland and a must visit
for every higher soul.

Visiting Beautiful Laxmi Devi Temple in Doddagaddavalli (Karnataka)

After visiting Mosale we headed towards Doddagaddavalli on
our way to Belur. Doddagaddavalli is a village about 5 kms west from Hasan
Belur Main road. Doddagadavalli is famous for Laxmi Devi temple. There is an
idol of Lord Narayana in front of Goddess Laxmi. Apart from the temples of
Laxmi and Narayana, there are also temples of Lord Shiva (Bhootanatha) and
Parvati (Kaali).

The temple is about 1000 years old and reflects the same
architecture of Hoyasala period as in Belur and Halebid. There is a 7 feet tall
wall around the four sides of the temple. There are four smaller shrines at the
four sides attached to the boundary wall. This is known to be the earliest temple
built in Hoyasala style. You can see the statue of lion which is the symbol of
Hoyasala kingdom on the top of the temple. The temple is maintained by the
Archaeological Survey of India as a protected monument.

Nageswara and Channa Keshava Temples in Mosale

Mosale is a village which is about 15 kms from Hassan.
Mosale is famous for the ancient temples of Nageswar and Channakesav temples.
You have to go about 2 kms to a diversion from the highway to reach to this
temple.

There are two ancient temples in Mosale in the same temple
complex. Both the temples are about 1000 years old showing the rich
architecture of Hoysala period (11th century). Nageswar temple is
Shiva temple. There is a statue of Nandi (Bull) in front of Lord Nageswara. It
is believed to be auspicious to see the Shiva Linga though the ears of Nandi.

The Channa Kesava temple is Krishna temple. There is a
beautiful image of Lord Krishna carved on black granite. There were no visitors
in the temple. Not many people visit the temple as it is located in a village
away from the main township. The temple is maintained by the Archaeological
Survey of India. The sculptures of the temple are simply awesome. You can take
pictures in the temple premises.

while climbing Bindhyagiri in the first part of the video. This part will show
you the 58 feet statue of Bahubali, 24 teerthankaras around the statue, Chennanna
basti and the beautiful views of the Bindhyagiri hill.

Sravana belagola is about 150 kms from Bangalore. It is a
prominent Jain piligrim center. It is famous for the 58 feet tall monolythic statue
of Bhagavan Bahubali Gomateswar. This statue of Bahubali is the tallest statue
of Asia.

There are two hills in Sravana belagola, one is big
(Doddabetta) called Bindhyagiri and another is small (Chikka betta) called
Chandragiri. The huge statue of Bahubali is there on Bindhyagiri hills.

It was a great satisfaction to visit the image of Bhagavan
Bahubali. It was my fourth visit and Mom’s third visit to Sravan Belagola.
While coming down from the hill, we saw Chennanna Basti, which consists of
several broken temples and stone structures. The views from the hill were
mesmerising. We could see the temple tank “Kalyani”, the small hill
“Chandragiri” and Sravan Belagola township from the top. Visiting Sravan
Belagola will always remain memorable for us.

There are two hills in Sravana belagola, one is big
(Doddabetta) called Bindhyagiri and another is small (Chikka betta) called
Chandragiri. The huge statue of Bahubali is there on Bindhyagiri hills. We
stayed in the Yatri Nivas, a guest house managed by the Temple trust. The accommodation
was resonable and was quite confortable.

After having our lunch we started climbing the Bindhyagiri
hill of Sravana belagola. Mom (87 years) was with us. It was her third visit to
Sravana belagola. She was slow in climbing but was quite confortable. She
counted the steps to be 576 in the long stretch. Mom was the only person of her
age. All other visitors were surprising to see such an old lady climbing the
hill.

After that there are about 100 steps at the top to reach the
Gomateswar statue.
While climbing Bindhyagiri, we could see the views of
Sravana belagola township, temple tank Kalyani, Chandragiri betta etc. which
were all very beautiful.

Before reaching the Bahubali statue at the top, we saw
Trikuta Jaina Chaityalaya on the way. This is a temple of three famous
teerthankaras, named, Adinath, Shantinath and Neminath. Besides we also saw
many other small shrines on both the sides while climbing on the hill. Finally
we reached the top of the hill and saw the Gigantic Bahubali statue.  This monolythic statue is unique of its kind.
We felt so lucky to visit this temple again.

Animals in Nehru Zoological Park Hyderabad

Neheru Zoological park is another attraction of Hyderabad,
built over 380 acres of land. There are about 100 species of different birds
and animals in the zoo. You can buy camera tickets to take pictures inside the
zoo. As the zoo is very large it is difficult to go from one place to another
by walk. Out of the interesting creatures we saw there are huge tortoises,
tigers of different types, bears, chimpanzee, hippopotamus and various types of
water birds. There is a poor quality aquarium at the entrance of the zoo.

The Beautiful Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad

Mecca Masjid or Macca Masjid is one of the oldest and most
important Masjids of Hyderabad. The construction of Mecca Masjid was started by
Mohd Quli Qutb Shah but completed much later by Aurangzeb, when Aurangzeb
conquered Hyderabad. At the left side of the entrance of Mecca Masjid there are
tombs of various rulers of Hyderabad. The main prayer hall of the Masjid is
very large, 75 feet high, 220 ft wide and 180 ft long, which is as big as to
accommodate 10,000 people during the prayer. The huge courtyard of the Masjid
is one of the most beautiful place in the whole campus. There is also a beautiful
pond in front of the Masjid. The water of this pond is considered to be holy.
People wash their hands and face with this holy water. You can see thousands of
pigeons in front of the Masjid. The birds are attracted by the water in the
pond and food grains offered by the visitors. People feed rice and other grains
to the birds as a part of their religious tradition.

Climbing on Charminar Fort (Hyderabad)

Charminar is the most important monument of Hyderabad. It
was constructed by the Qutb Shahi rulers during sixteenth century. Charminar is
maintained by the Archeological survey of India and is open to public on all
days from 9 AM to 5 PM for a nominal entry fee. There is a small Hindu temple
called Bhagyalaxmi temple at the base of the fort. There is a narrow staircase
through which you can climb to the first floor of the fort. The fort is very
interesting to see from inside. A mosque is located on the top of the roof. The
other part of the roof was used as a count by the Qutb Shahi rulers. It was
very interesting to see the beautiful views of the ciry of Hyderabad from the
top of the fort.  We could see the
beautiful Mecca Masjid which is located nearby from the top of Charminar.
Charminar is not only important for Hyderabad but for the whole Andhra Pradesh and
even for the whole South India. It is a must visit for everybody going to
Hyderabad.

Important Tourist Points in Golkonda Fort (Hyderabad)

Golkonda fort is one of the important attractions of

Nagina Bagh, Akanna Madanna Office, Ramdas jail, Darbar hall, Ibrahim Musjid
(Qutb shahi mosque), Ambar khanna, Mahakali temple and the Bardari on the top.
Golkonda fort was firt built by the Kakatiya dynasty during 10th
century. Later the fort was fortified by Qutb Shahi dynasty during sixteen
century. While the initial structure was made by mud, the later improvements
were made with granite. The fort is massive and extended around 5km in
circumference. It was tiring to climb continuously particularly for my mom.
Although she was not confident in the beginning, finally she could climb till
the top. Others visitors were surprised to see my mom climbing so vigorously
till Jagadamba Mahakali temple and Baradari on the top. The baradari is a two
storied building. There were many secret passages from the baradari to other
places in the fort and even to outside the fort which were used for emergency
exits.

Qutb Shahi Tomb is located near Golkunda fort in Hyderabad.
This is a huge burial ground containing the tombs of seven important rulers of
Hyderabad, including Md Kuli Qutb Shah, Md Abdulla Qutb Shah, Hyat Bakshi Begum
etc. All these tombs are built by the Shahi rulers of Hyderabad during
sixteenth century. There is also a beautiful Mosque inside the Qutb Shahi Tombs
complex. All these structures show beautiful sculpture and architecture. We
spent half day in Qutb Shahi tombs which was not enough. It needs a lot of
walking from one tomb to another. You may need one full day to visit the place
comfortably. (Hope you have seen the first part of this Video.)

Climbing Four Storied Undavali Caves near Vijaywada

Undavali Caves is located about 10 kms from Vijaywada on the
way from Vijaywada to Amaravati. These caves are constructed by the side of a
hill. As per the archeological department, the caves were 1500 years old. Those
were constructed during 6th and 7th century. The original
caves were Buddhist caves which were used for resting. Later the caves were
modified by hindus. The main temple is dedicated to Ananta sayana, the sleeping
Vishnu. You can see sculptures in the caves a combination o f Hinduism,
Buddhism and Jainism constructed during fifth to seventh century. There are
four stories of caves and you can climb safely from one story to another
through steps. It is a thrilling experience to climb the caves on the hill. It
was a tiring day and the bus journey from Vijaywada was painful. My mom was
feeling sick and could not climb much of the hills. After visiting the caves we
returned back to Vijaywada.

Visiting Amareswar Temple in Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh)

Amareswar temple is the most famous temple in Amaravati. Amaravati
is about 50 Kms from Vijaywada. From Vijaywada we went to Amaravati by bus
which took us about 2 hours. Amareswar temple is very close to Amaravati bus
stop (about one Km). The temple is located by the side of river Krishna. It is
one of the five most popular Shiva temples in Andhra Pradesh. The area of the
temple campus is very large. While the main temple of Lord Amareswar is located
at the center there are many more temple located at all four sides. My mom was

Om Sri Sri Sri Kanakadurga Temple in Vijaywada

Kanakadurga temple is the most popular temple in Vijaywada.
It is a very ancient temple built on top of Indra kiladri hill on the bank of
River Krishna. There are several busses run by the temple to carry devotees
from the bottom of the hill to the temple on the top all free of cost. We also
went to the hill by the temple bus. The temple looks beautiful with golden
coating. Goddesh Kanaka durga is a 4 feet high idol, shown to have eight arms
and holding different weapons on each of these arms. Apart from goddess
Kanakadurga, there are also temples of lord Malleswara and lord Ganesh etc. As
per the legend the temple was built by Arjuna who prayed lord shiva on top of
this hill. You can get beautiful views of Vijaywada city from the top of the
hill. While coming back we visited Anjaneya swamy temple on the way. It was a
great spiritual trip in Vijaywada.

Holy Bathing in Krishna River in Durgaghat Vijaywada

River Krishna is as a holy river and it is considered as

Revisiting Sankey Tank in Banglore

Sankey tank is a huge man made lake in Bangalore covering an
area of about 37 acres. The widest part of the tank is about 800 meters. Apart
from the lake there is a beautiful park around it maintained by Bangalore
Mahanagara Palike. Sankey tank was constructed by Richard Sankey of Madras
regiment in 1882 to provide drinking water in Bangalore. But it could not be
used as the water quality of the tank was not good for drinking purposes. Later
during recent years the tank was converted to a lake by Bangalore Mahanagar
Palike. This lake is also called as Gandhadhakatikere as the Govt sandalwood
depot is there near the place. This lake used for Ganesh Idol Visharjan during
Ganesh Puja times. There are also some free yoga classes there during morning
times. This place is about 6 kms from our residence and we have visited this
place several times. Many local people come here regularly for walking

These two Lions are quite
interesting in Nandankanan zoo. We saw them playing very beautifully in the
Zoo. While tigers are the most popular attractions, these two beasts are
probably the next popular attractions. Don’t forget to see them in Nandankanan.

Bangalore Musical Fountain

There are many Musical Fountains in Bangalore. Indira Gandhi
musical fountain is fully computerized to synchronize the music, water and
light combinations. There are two shows regularly. The visitors have to pay a
small entry fee to view the musical fountain show. Videography is not allowed
in the musical fountain. Hence, in the second part of this video I have shown
the musical fountain of the Jaymahal park which is also a computerized system
though not so good as Indira Gandhi musical fountain. However, it is sad to see
that the musical fountain in Jaymahal park worked only for few months and then
stopped functioning.
