Golkonda fort is one of the important attractions of
Hyderabad. Some of the important structures in Golkonda fort are Silai Khanna,
Nagina Bagh, Akanna Madanna Office, Ramdas jail, Darbar hall, Ibrahim Musjid
(Qutb shahi mosque), Ambar khanna, Mahakali temple and the Bardari on the top.
Golkonda fort was firt built by the Kakatiya dynasty during 10th
century. Later the fort was fortified by Qutb Shahi dynasty during sixteen
century. While the initial structure was made by mud, the later improvements
were made with granite. The fort is massive and extended around 5km in
circumference. It was tiring to climb continuously particularly for my mom.
Although she was not confident in the beginning, finally she could climb till
the top. Others visitors were surprised to see my mom climbing so vigorously
till Jagadamba Mahakali temple and Baradari on the top. The baradari is a two
storied building. There were many secret passages from the baradari to other
places in the fort and even to outside the fort which were used for emergency
exits.
