The Bugle Rock Garden (Bangalore)

Bugle rock garden is situated adjacent to the bull temple in the same campus. The rocks in this garden are supposed to be one of the oldest natural rock formation in the world which is more than 10 million years old (some say 3000 million years old). The rocks in this garden are internally connected with the rocks in lalgabh garden. This bugle rock garden is spread over 16 acres of land with many beautiful trees and plants. There is a watch tower in the garden which was used for blowing beguiles in the past for safety purposes. The most interesting attraction for me is the bats which are typically found hanging under every branch of the huge trees in this garden. This video was shot in the year 2009.

Big Bull (Dodda Vasavana) Temple in Bangalore

Bull temple (Dodda=Big, Vasavana=Bull) is one of the oldest temples and important tourist attractions in Bangalore. The main deity of the temple is Nandi or Bull. The statue of Nandi is a huge monolithic statue made of a single store. The statue is 4.5 meters height and 6 meters long. Photography is allowed inside the temple. In this video you can see the outside and inside view of the temple and how the statue of bull is beautifully decorated with flowers.

Apart from the bull temple, there are other temples in the same campus like Doddha Ganapati Temple, Shiva temple, Hanuman temple etc. in the same premises. The Spectacular Chowmahala Palace in Hyderabad

Chowmahala palace is located very near (less than one km) to Charminar. In fact we took a walk from Charminar to the Chowmahala palace. Chowmahalla palace is one of the important attractions of Hyderabad. The entrance ticket is slightly high (25 rs that time) compared to the tickets of other similar places. You can also buy camera tickets to take pictures/video inside the palace.

This huge palace was built over 200 years ago by the Nizams of Hyderabad to entertain their guests and visitors. There are many huge palaces in the complex and all these palaces are now converted to museums. In these museums you can see various types of weapons used by the warriors during that period. Besides you can see the furnitures and other household items used by the Nizams and royal families of Hyderabad. The palace has two courtyards, southern courtyard and northern courtyard. In the southern courtyard there are four palaces Afzal mahal, Mehtab mahal, Tahniyat mahal and Aftab mahal. In the northern courtyard there are Bara Imam and Sise Alaat. Besides there are gardens, pools and fountains which add to the beauty of the palace.

Chowmahala palace is one of the five important tourist points of Hyderabad, including Charminar, Golkonda fort etc. The Chowmahala palace is such a huge complex that it can easily take a full day to visit all the palaces inside. If you are going Hyderabad don’t forget to visit this place.

Visiting Hussain Sagar and Lumbini Park in Hyderabad

Hussain sagar is the largest man made artificial lake of Asia. The Buddha statue at the center of hussain sagar is a great tourist attraction. Lumbini Park is built adjacent to hussain sagar. The park is open to public on all days except Mondays. There is a small entry fee to visit this park. There are some fun rides for the children and it is like an entertainment park. However, the main view of the park is the view of various types of boats floating on hussain sagar. You can book speed boats and other types of boats to float on water.

We booked tickets in a ferry to visit the Buddha statue in hussain sagar. The ferry took about 15 minutes to reach there. It was a fantastic experience to see the huge Buddha statue in the island. It was a very pleasant and memorable experience to visit this place.

Visiting Matheran – The Eco-sensitive Hillstation near Mumbai

Matheran is an Eco-sensitive hill station in Maharastra about 100 kms from Mumbai and 120 kms from Pune. It is situated about 800 meters above sea level on Sahayadri hills. From Mumbai we went Neral by a local train. From Neral there is a special narrow gauge toy train to Matheran which usually does not operate. From Neral we went upto the hill by a shared taxi (Busses and bigger vehicles don’t go to the hill).

This is a declared as an eco-sensitive place. You cannot see any motor vehicles on top of the hill as all kinds of motor vechiles are banned on top of the hill. One has to either take a horse or go by walk to visit different tourist points on Matheran. However, I could feel lot of dusts there on the hill because of dry soil and lack of proper roads.

There are more than a dozen interesting points on top of the hill. (A longer list shows more than 30 points to see). We first went to the panorama point, then Nigam’s point, heart point, Monkey point, Sunset point, Paymaster Park and finally echo point. We were pretty tired by walking and walking. However the day was interesting and adventurous.

Parks and Gardens in Mumbai

We visited some interesting parks in Mumbai including Hanging Garden, Kamala Nehru Park, Brahma Kumari Peace Garden and some other Parks of which I don’t actually remember the names.

Hanging garden is located at the top of Malabar hill. This is a very old park laid out during 1881. This is also called as PMG (Pherozeshah Mehta Garden). This is a public park and there is no entry fee to visit this park.

Kamala Nehru park is also located on Malabar hill just opposite to the Hanging garden. It is also called the shoe park. There is a huge shoe shaped structure inside the park. This huge structure of shoe is also called as the old woman’s shoe. As the park is located at a height, you can get a good view of Chowpathy beach from here. When we were there in the park, there were many helecopters flying on Chaupathy beach and people were falling through paratutes. This was a great spectacular view. We also had visited Brahmakumari Peace Garden, Shivaji Park and some other parks which I could not remember properly.

A Travellor’s view of Mumbai VT and the Town Hall Buildings

Victoria Terminus or VT is one of the most important heritage buildings which used as the railway station of Mumbai. There are many railway stations in Mumbai however VT is the last station. The station is also called as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). This building is very old and reflects beautiful British architecture. Near the station there is a place with lot of pigeons. People come here to feed the birds.

Town hall is another important heritage building (Saheed Bhagat Singh Road) which is located near to the Victoria Terminus. The townhall houses Asiatic society which is a huge library containing about a million books. The library was established two hundred years ago in 1804. The structure of the townhall is elegant and easy to remember. It is shot in many bollywood movies in various contexts.

The video shows the views of VT area and Townhall area during our visit to Mumbai in 2007. Other interesting places like Elephanta caves, Floara fountain, Beaches etc. are shown in separate movies.

Visiting the Hills of Khandala and Lonavala near Mumbai

Lonavala and Khandala are two beautiful hill stations about 100 kms from Mumbai and 70 kms from Pune. From mumbai we went Lonavala by a local train and from lonavala we took auto-rickshaw to visit the local points. Lonavala is quite a big place on the hill top with a lot of Hotels. Many film stars also have bunglows in Lonavala. A large number of mountain shootings of Bollywood films are done here in Khandala.

We first visited shivaji park in lonavala, then went to Bhusi lake, then went to lions point and shooting point. The view of hills at Lions point are spectacular. We also saw some camels at the lion point. From lonavala we went to khandala which is about 5 kms. First visited film shooting point in khandala, then Khandala Lake, then visited Rajamachi Park and monkey point.
