Thimphu City Complete Sightseeing Full Movie

Thimphu is the capital city of the royal kingdom of Bhutan. The distance between Phuentsholing and Thimphu is about 175 kms which takes about 6 hours in bus. We stayed 3 days in Thimphu and visited all interesting places. This video shows all important places in and around Thimphu.

Tashi Cho Dzong is the most respectful Dzong in Thimphu. The king of Bhutan sits in this dzong. Besides this is also used for various high level ministerial offices. Interestingly tourists are also allowed to visit this place, but only after the working hours, i.e., between 4.30 to 5.30 PM. Hence this is considered as one of the most important tourist attractions. We had to go through a thorough security checking and produce our Permits/documents before entering the Dzong. But the best thing is that they allowed our cameras to take inside and take pictures of the dzong (except inside the Lahkhang). There is no ticket or entry fee to visit this dzong.

The National Memorial Chorten is the most popular tourist attraction of Thimphu. It is very easily accessible as it is located about one km from Thimphu bus stand. This is a Tibetan style stupa constructed in 1974 in the memory of Bhutan’s king Late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. You can see many people, both locals and outsiders, walking around the chorten as a religious practice. Apart from the chorten there is also a small Buddha temple at the back side. Besides there are some large prayer wheels at the left side of the entrance. This chorten is a marvelous example of Buddhist architecture and a must visit for anybody going to Thimphu.

The Coronation Park is located on the banks of the river Wang chu in Thiphu city. This is the biggest park in the city spread over 6 acres of land. There is no ticket or entry fee to visit this park. There is a big statue of Sakyamuni Buddha in the park. This is a pleasant and relaxing environment and you can get good views of the city as well as of the Himalayan mountains. The views of river wang chu is enjoyable which flows by the side of coronation park.

Dechen Phodrang Lakhang is one of the oldest and most sacred monasteries of Thimphu. We had to walk for about 4 kms from Norzim lam to reach here. This is located on a ridge about 200 mtrs high from Thimphu valey. From this hight you can get nice views of Thimphu city, Wang chu river, Tashicho dzong, Buddha point etc. There are three main attractions here, (i) the chorten in the front, (ii) the large prayer wheels and (iii) the main lakhang (temple). We went inside the lakhang and felt the spiritual bliss of the environment. There is a separate hall at the side for burning thousands of butter candles. A large number of buddhist monks stay near the lakhang for religious studies and practice.

The Tangtong Dewachen Dupthop Nunnery in located in the Zilukha area of Thimphu. This is often called as Zilukha nunnery in short. There is a beautiful lakhang inside the nunnery and a beautiful statue of Drupthop Thangtong Gyalpo also known as the Great Chagzopa. This is because the nunnery was built by a saint called Rickey Jadrel, who is believed to be 16th emanation of Drupthop Thangtong gyalpo himself. The pillar in front of the main building depicts teachings of Buddha, First Sermon in Deer park, which is represented by the 2 deer looking at the Auspicious wheel. The Wheel is a representation of teachings of Buddha..

Changankha Lakhang is a very old (15th century) monastry and considered to be very important from religious point of view. Bhutanese people must wear their traditional dress in order to enter the Lakhang. However Indians (and other foreigners) are allowed to enter with pants and shirts. We went inside and saw the beautiful buddha inside the lakhang. We were also very lucky to see the prayer of the monks. The atmosphere inside the lakhang was extremely spiritual and cannot be expressed in words.

Kuensel Phodrang (or Buddha dordenma or Buddha Point) is the recent most attraction of Thimphu. It is located on a hill about 8 kms from Thimphu. There is a 52 meters tall bronze statue of Lord Buddha. The statue is so big that it is visible from almost everywhere in the city. There are 125000 small buddha statues are placed inside buddha dordenma. The throne on which Buddha sits is a large meditation hall. As the place is located at a height we could see the beautiful views of Thimphu city and magnificent views of Himalayan mountains around the place. We also saw “Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park” which is very close to the place of Buddha statue.

Pondicherry Sightseeing Full Movie

Pondichery is famous for Arobindo ashram and Auroville matrimandir. However, there are many other interesting places to see. This video shows the complete sightseeing of Pondicherry and around. Some of the interesting places include the main sea beach (Pomenado beach), Dupleix statue, French buildings, French War memorial, Ambedkar mandapam, Le Cafe, Mahatma Gandhi statue, Neheru statue and the beautiful views of the sea beach, he old light house (near Secretariate), the new light house (south to Pondy towards Birampatnam), beautiful statues and view points near the main Pondy beach (Pomenado beach). The video also shows Bharati park, Manakula Vinayaka temple and Panchavatee Anjaneya temple.

Manakula Binayaka Temple is one of the most popular temples in Pondicherry located near Arobindo ashram. The other beautiful temples we visited are Kalathisvaran temple, Bedha puruseswar or Iswaran temple, Vardaraj Perumal temple. We hired a scooter and visited Panchavati Anjaneya temple which is about 10 kms from pondichery on Dindivanam road. Panchavati Anjaneya is a huge 36 ft granite idol.

Auroville is a universal township about 10 kms from Pondicherry. People of many different countries settle in auroville. The most important attraction of auroville is the matrimandir which is located at the center of it. The matrimandir is a globe shaped large structure for doing meditation inside.

This video shows the views of six beautiful beaches of Pondichery. (i) Pondichery Main beach or Pomenado beach, (ii) serenity beach (iii) Repo beach or Aurovil beach, (iv) sandy beach, (v) Birampatnam beach, (vi) Paradise beach. In my consideration Pondichery main beach is the most beautiful beach followed by Paradise beach. Other beaches are also good having their own features. For example, serenity beach is full of colorful fishing boats, repo beach is suitable for swimming (swimming jackets are available on hire) etc.

The botanical garden near bus stand is another attraction in Pondichery. It is more than double the size of Bharati park. There is a toy train for children running through the garden (Rs 10/- ticket). A statue of two big bulls look very attractive at the center of the garden. There are many medicinal plants and many rare plants in the garden. You can see the rest in the video.

This video shows three beautiful churches of Pondicherry. One is Sacred heart church near Pondicherry railway station. This is a very beautiful church and located at a very prominent location. The second church is Immaculate Conception cathedral on the mission street (or cathedral street) in Pondichery. The third church is the Lady of Health church in Ariyakuppam about 6 kms from Pondichery on Cuddalore road.

Paradise beach is a small island in the Bay of Bengal. One has to go about 5 kms in boat from Chunambar to reach Paradise beach. The width of the paradise beach is about 100 meters in some places. The length is just about more than a kilometer. We went to the Chunnambar boat club by a scooter from Pondicherry. Read more details of my experience in my blogs.

Arikamedu archeological site is about 8 kms from Pondicherry. One has to come upto Ariyakuppam on Cuddalore road and then take a left turn to go to the place. You can find the ruined parts of some very old buildings It is a few acres of land maintained by the archeological survey of India.

Birampatnam is about 10 kms south to Pondicherry. One has to come southward from Pondichery on Cuddalore road and take a left turn at Ariyakuppam to reach the beach. There are three interesting points to see in Birampatnam, one is the church in Ariyakuppam (shown in a separate video) where you take a turn for the beach, second is the amma temple near the beach (visible at the beginning of this video) and third is the beach. The video shows the beach in detail.

Ousteri Lake or Ossudu lake about 20 kms from pondichery. We went from pondicherry to Ousteri lake by a scooter. This is a huge lake with boating facility. However many of the boats are not in working condition. If you have more time in Pondichery it is not a bad idea to visit this place atleast for an hour. The place is less crowded as it is far from the city.

Tiruvakkarai is about 40 kms from Pondichery. One has to go through Oustery lake on the way. So we first visited Oustery lake and then went 20 kms further including 6 kms very poor road to find the Fossil Park. However after reaching the place I realized that the effort was worth for such a place. There are several hundred tree fossils which are estimated to be 20 million years old.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

Paro Complete Sightseeing Full Movie

Paro is the second most important town of Bhutan next to Thimphu. Paro is the only town in Bhutan having International airport. There are many interesting places and tourist attractions in Paro such as, Paro Dzong, Dungse Lahkhang, Ta Dzong, Kichu Lhakhang, Takstang Lhakhang etc. This video shows the detail sightseeing of Paro town.

Jangtsa Dungtse Lhakhang is a chorten like temple at about one km from Paro town. It is clearly visible from the bridge on Paro Chu river. You have to cross the river Paro chu through the bridge and go a km or less to reach the lhakhang. This lhakhang is very old and was built in 15th century. It has three floors representing hell, earth and heaven. The inside looked dark because we went from bright daylight outside. The buddha temple and paintings inside are very beautiful.

The large prayer wheel in Paro bazaar is the most attractive prayer wheel in Paro. It is situated on the road side clearly visible to the passers by. There is a round shaped artificial water body around the wheel. The colors are very attractive and ideal for photography. On the opposite side of the road, there is a very old Lhakhang. I could not know its name properly, some said it was bazar lhakhang, some said it was Paro Natsta lhakhang. As they said the lhakhang is very old and sacred.

Rinpung Dzong (also known as Paro Dzong) is the most important structure in Paro which was builit in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the then ruler of Bhutan. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. The dzong is a massive fortress. The Dzong houses the monastic bodies and many important offices of Paro, like that of the judge. However, the dzong is open to the visitors and allowed for photography. The design and architecture is wonderful. There is a beautiful Lhakhang inside the dzong. Some films like Little Buddha were filmed in and around this dzong.

Ta Dzong (or Bhutan National Museum) is located above Ringpung Dzong. You may go by road or climb through a short cut route through the mountain. The entry fee for Ta dsong is 10 nu for locals, 50 nu for SAARC and 200 nu for outside tourists. Photography not allowed inside museum. As the dzong is located at great height, the whole paro town is clearly visible from here. The views of Himalayan Mountains and the river Paro Chu are magnificent from here.

Kyichu Lhakhang is one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of Bhutan. Some say that it was constructed in 7th century. It is about 5 kms from Paro town on the way to Taktsang Lhakhang (Tiger Nest Monastery).. The lhakhang complex is composed of two temples, out of which one is old and another is new. There is one beautiful chorten at the entrance and another at the back side. The chortens look beautiful with golden tips. On the other side of the lhakhang there are three very large Prayer wheels. Inside the lhakhang there is beautiful buddha idol and very spiritual atmosphere. Please see the video for more.

Taktsang Lhakhang or Tiger Nest Monastery is the highest buddhist spot in Bhutan. It is built on a cliff about 1200 meters above paro town. One has to go about 10 kms from Paro town and walk for 3 hrs to reach this place. A total of 5 hours trekking is required for this monastery (climbing 3 hours+ return 1.5 hours). The route was extremely adventurous through the himalayan mountains. As there is no place to stay in Taktsang lhakhang you have to come back on the same day. Hence nobody starts trekking after 1 o’clock as it would be be impossible to return after that. The route to the monastery is mystical and you must visit there or see this video. The route is much more complex than anybody’s imagination. Although it was difficult for a day we brought with us a wonderful memory for the whole lifetime. There are 5 temples inside the Tiger Nest monastery. Each temple has different type of buddha statue and beautiful decorations. The atmosphere inside the temples was very spiritual. The views were wonderful from the cliff which was about 1200 meters above Paro town and about 3200 meters above sea level. This site has been recognized as a most sacred place and visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime.

Paro is a beautiful tourist destination in Bhutan. This video shows the general views of Paro town, such as, Paro bazaar, Paro chu (river), distant views of Dungtse lhakhang, Ringpung Dzong (zoomed), Ta Dzong (zoomed), himalayan mountains, hotel dragon, bazaar prayer wheel, bazaar lhakhang monastery and chortens on the way to Paro dzong. Nathula Baba Mandir Changu Lake Sightseeing Full Movie

The Nathula pass is is about 60 kms from Gangtok. This is located on Indo-Chinese border and is open only to Indian tourists (Foreigners not allowed). In order to visit Nathula you have to get special permission one day in advance (by providing Indian ID card). The route closes on Monday and Tuesday, besides it also closes in winter due to snowfall. Only small jeeps are going there. Bigger vehicles and private cars are not allowed in this route.

You can see the Chinese border here from one ft distance but you are not allowed to jump the border to get into Chinese land. There are Indian soldiers on Indian side and Chinese soldiers on Chinese side. Our vehicle was supposed to leave at 8 am but actually left after 10 am. The route is painful and full of ups and downs. It is important to get a good vehicle and a comfortable seat in order to enjoy this trip.

You are not allowed to take photographs in Nathula. The pictures in this video are taken on the route while going to Nathu la. There is extreme cold and strong wind in Nathula. You need proper winter garments with head cover. All tourists must leave Nathula before 2 PM. Nobody is allowed to stay in Nathula after 2 PM as the wind becomes stronger and dangerous. We were given only half an hour in Nathula. Initially we were dissatisfied but later we realized that staying longer wouldn’t have been possible in that terrible cold. There is a canteen with limited food items maintained by Indian army here. We took coffee and momo from this military canteen. There is no other shop or habitation at this place.

Baba Mandir
Baba mandir (13,123 ft ) is located about 50 kms from Gangtok and 8 kms before Nathu la pass. This is usually visited on the way while going to Nathula pass. The temple area is maintained by Indian Army. The baba mandir is build in the name of Harbajan Singh Baba who was a soldier in Indian army. It is believed that the soul of Harbhajan Singh guards the place from enemies. There is also a beautiful Shiva Idol about half km distance from Baba Mandir, along the foothills of Namang chho. The Shiva idol adds to the beauty and serenity of the area and provides a hermitage feeling at the backdrop of Namang chho waterfalls. The Shiva idol is 12 feet tall and made of high quality fiberglass material.

Changu Lake
The Tsongmo Lake or the Changu Lake is situated about 40 kms from Gangtok which is about 2+ hours drive on Himalayan mountains. You can see this on the way while going to Nathula and Baba mandir. This can be visited on any day even on Mondays and Tuesdays even when Nathula is closed. This is one of the most visited tourist spots near Gangtok. This is a one km long lake. The average depth of water is about 15 meters.
We visited this place while returning from Nathula pass. When we got down from the vehicle our attention was first cought by the huge yalks. We saw many so yaks near the lake. The yaks were so beautiful. They charge 50 rs to take pictures and 100 rs to sit on the yak. Yaks although look huge and furious; they are actually very soft and loving animals. I loved those animals very much.
You can also get Sikim dress on hire (100-150 Rs) which you can wear and take pictures near the lake. This place is less cold than Nathula and Baba mandir. However, the place is covered with snow after January as they say. This place is very much different from other tourist places and worth visiting during your Gangtok trip. There are a few places to get food and coffee but quite expensive.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

There are two check posts on the way and the driver of the vehicle (all vehicles are local only) submits the permit papers at the check post. Nathula is located 14400 feet above the sea level and the place is extremely cold. Generally it is covered with ice after December till April. Most of the times the vehicle will go above the clouds. The vehicle stopped on the way for tiffin. The journey took about 3 hours to nathula. Nathula pass is historically significant as the route is used by the silk traders of Sikim and Tibet in the past.
You are not allowed to take photographs here. The pictures in this video are taken on the route while going to Nathu la. There is extreme cold and strong wind in Nathula. Nathula Pass on Indo-China Border

Nathula pass is about 60 kms from Gangtok near China border. You need to get special permission to visit Nathula. While visiting Nathula you can visit Changu lake and Baba Mandir on the way. This is a short clip on Nathula. Please see my detail videos on Nathula tour, Baba Mandir and Changu Lake uploaded separately.

10 Rumtek monastery

Rumtek monastery is about 20 kms from Gangtok. (Rumtek is different direction from Ranka monastery, but you can combine them both in one trip). Once you leave the highway, the roads are in very bad condition. The vehicle can take very long time. Rumteck is a famous monastery – the main seat of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The place is guarded by Indian army. The army people checked our ID card at the entrance gate before allowing us to enter into the monastery. You have to pay Rs 10 towards entrance fee and buy the tickets to visit the monastery. As there are armed soldiers at every corner of the monastery you feel very cautious like visiting a live fort. The original structure was contructed in 18th century. The current structure was built in 1959. There are two rumtek monasteries, old and new, but the newer one is the attraction. The older one is largely for monks. The new monastry is very large. There is a large courtyard and structures aound it. We visited the Buddha temple inside which was extremely beautiful. We also climbed to the top of the roof where we got beautiful views of the mountains. After visiting the monastery we went to another campus on the back side where we saw the golden stupa. The golden stupa is preserved in a small temple guarded by the army.
You can visit Jawaharlal Neheru botanical Garden which is on the way while going to Rumtek monastery. This is a garden with various plants, flowers etc. Nothing special to see here as the Himalayan plants are there everywhere. Shanti view point is also another attraction on the way to Rumtek. This is a small place to halt, view and proceed. You get beautiful views of Gangtok city from here. The city is really beautiful as the huge mountains look fully covered with buildings.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

Visiting Ranka Monastery or Lingdum Monastery near Gangtok

Lingdum monastry or Ranka monastery is about 20 kms from Gangtok. The road condition was very poor and the journey took 2 hours for one side. This is a huge monastery and very famous from religious point of view. This depicts the practices of Zurmang Kagud lineage. There are a large number of monks staying inside the monastery. This is one of the largest and most beautiful monasteries not only in Sikim but in the whole in India. There is no entry fee or any restriction to visit or photograph in the monastery. Unlike Rumtek monastery (where you find army guards everywhere) here you feel more comfortable to visit. There is a large prayer hall inside the monastery and beautiful Buddha idol worshiped inside the prayer hall.
Thre is a beautiful stupa outside the monastery campus- just 50 meters away. The stupa is so beautifully decorated. I would say this to be the most beautiful Stupa (chorten) in India. You can take pictures of monastery and the stupa without restriction. If you are going Gangtok never ignore to visit this place.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

Visiting Banjhakri Waterfall (Gangtok)

Banjhakri Waterfall is about 8 kms from Gangtok and 12 kms before Ranka Monastery. This waterfall is much bigger compared to Bakthang waterfall in Gangtok town. It is a 100-ft waterfall is located in a 2-acre area. The area looks more attractive because of various improvements made by the tourism department. You can see many statues, life size sculptures of jhakri culture, artificial structures, parks, flowers, bridge, pool with a dragon at the center, fountains etc which are very colorful and add to the beauty of the place. There is a small entrance fee to visit this place and a fee for the camera too. This is a wonderful picnic spot and a must visit if you are visiting Ranka monastery.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

Wearing Sikim Dress in Ganesh Tok (Gangtok)

Ganesh tok is about 7kms from Gangtok, situated just opposite to the entrance of the Sikim Himalayan Zoo. Ganesh Tok is a watchtower and temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh. Ganesh Tok stands at a height of 6500 feet above sea level, which is the highest point around. Here you can get sikim traditional dress on hire for wearing and taking photographs. It was a great fun and enjoyment to weat Sikim dress.

Tashi Viewpoint- A must visit in Gangtok

Tashi viewpoint is about 8 kms from Gangtok on north Sikim highway. This point is named after Tashi Namgyal, the king of sikim. The viewpoint is on the top of a hill. You have to climb about 100 steps from the motorable road top reach the viewpoint. There are some recent improvements in the place such as a balcony with railings at the side for safe and comfortable viewing. There is also a cafeteria for refreshment. This place gives good viess of Gangtok township, mount Kanchanjanga, Phodong and Labrang monasteries etc.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

06 Hanuman tok

Hanuman Tok is about 9 kms from Gangtok. This is a Temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and also a viewpoint. This place is maintained by the black cat division of Indian army. Apart from Hanuman, there are temples of Lord Rama, Laxman, Sita and other Gods too. The place is quite spacious, clean and peaceful. There are a lot of bells hanging everywhere as you can see in the video. Before going there I was bit apprehensive about Army people guarding the temple. But after going there my impression was changed. The place is more peaceful than any other temple. Thre is a watchtower for viewing Himalayan Mountain and Kanchenjunga peak. The place is a must visit if you are going to Gangtok.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope you enjoyed the video. Please view my other videos at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI0LpxPhq16oCp-qAEdQh1g and subscribe to my Youtube channel.

Visiting Enchey Monastery in Gangtok

Enchey Monastery is a 200 years old monastery located about 3 kms east of Gangtok. We visited this place while coming back from Ganesh Tok. This monastery very important from Religious and Spiritual point of view. Many monks stay here in huge buldings. There is a large Buddha temple inside the monastery and beautiful idols worshiped inside the temple. Tourists are allowed to visit the temple inside the monastery. The temple and the prayer hall are beautifully decorated and make you feel the peace of the spiritual environment.

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (Gangtok)

The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is located on syari road about half km from Deorali road. (Address: Syari road, MP golai, Tadang, gangtok). You can find this on the way while going to Chorten monastry (Do Drul Monastery). The tibetology campus opens from 10 AM to 4 PM. You have to pay an entry fee of Rs 10/-. However we had to wait for long as the gate opened at about 10.40. There is a beautiful statue of Guru Padmasambhava in the campus near the entrance. There is a museum inside the campus. The museum contains varous artifacts on Lord Buddha and Buddhism. Each artifact is described with its Tibetan name and Sanskrit equivalent name which is very useful for the researchers. For general tourists, unless you have special interest on historical artifacts, the place can be visited within half an hour.
